Venaseal: Innovative Vein Treatment

At Alate Vein Center, we pride ourselves on utilizing the latest medical technology in order to bring you the best treatments available for vein diseases. Among these treatments is Venaseal — an innovative, catheter-based approach to healing varicose veins and spider veins through an inserted adhesive. Minimally invasive with a very short recovery time, Venaseal is an excellent choice for many Houston vein treatment patients.

WHAT IS VENASEAL?

Venaseal restricts blood flow through diseased veins by the direct injection of a venous “glue” into the vein itself. Manual pressure is then applied to the area by one of our vein specialists until the adhesive closes the vein. The treatment has been clinically studied on three different occasions, and has been deemed “safe and effective.”

Patients with thin legs, or veins very close to the surface are great candidates because the chance of heat damaging the skin when performing vein ablations are not an issue with Venaseal.

What Are The Benefits of Venaseal Over Other Treatments?

  • Increased amount of treatable vein
  • Decreased amount of nerve injury
  • No need to wear compression stockings after treatment
  • Reduced need for additional treatments

When you step into our clinic for a free vein consultation, one of our specialists will ask you several questions about your general health, blood clot history, and other important health information in order to decide if you are a good candidate for Venaseal.
If it is determined that the procedure would be effective for you, you will be asked to come back in at a later date to receive treatment.

Once you are taken into the procedure room, the vein specialist will give you an anesthetic to numb the entry site in preparation for inserting the catheter into the problem vein. During insertion, while the area is now numb, you may feel a small amount of pressure as the catheter enters. The catheter will be moved along specific areas in the problem vein in order to release the adhesive.
Your doctor will use ultrasound to follow the vein, and manual pressure will be applied to the area in order for the adhesive to bind properly. You may feel sensations of tugging or pulling during this process, but very rarely do patients experience pain. Once the procedure is finished and the catheter is removed, the doctor will place a bandage and pressure over the entry site and you will be free to leave the same day.

One of the major benefits of Venaseal is that patients are able to return to their normal life activities immediately after the procedure. Unlike other vein treatments, compression garments are usually not needed and bruising is generally a non-issue.
After the treatment, you should notice your physical varicose veins symptoms disappear quickly. In several weeks, you will be able to notice cosmetic improvements.

Due to Venaseal being minimally invasive and catheter-based, the potential for harmful side effects are very limited. One of our specialists will talk you through any concerns you may experience including the potential risks:

  • Allergic reaction
  • Bleeding
  • Blood clot
  • Infection
  • Pain
  • Inflammation
  • Neurological deficits
